Dry skin condition is characterized by dryness of the skin in terms of the look and feel of the skin. The dry skin is thin and sensitive to weather elements and bacteria. It can develop an allergy easily. The skin usually tends to flake during the winters and fine wrinkles also tend to appear on the face prematurely. A authenticated dry skin care could avoid this drawback. Chapping and cracking are signs of extremely dry, dehydrated skin.
The dry skin appears dull. The key reason for the dry texture is the fact that the sebaceous glands do not produce enough sebum to lubricate the skin making the surface look dry and dull. Dry skin could be caused by excessive exposure to sun, wind, cold, chemicals, or cosmetics, or excessive bathing with harsh soaps. Genetics and Nutritional deficiency may also contribute to dry skin care.
Types of dry skin:
There are essentially two types of dry skin conditions.
- The oil-dry: The oil-dry skin is sensitive and has flaky patches with no visible pores. It tends to age and wrinkles prematurely unless carefully looked after.
- The moisture-dry: The moisture-dry skin has a fine texture. Its appearance is taut and dry with a tendency to chap easily and even at an early age, may show tiny lines around the eyes and mouth.
Skincare tips for Dry skin:
The skin-care regime should emphasize the moisturizing and nourishing routines.
- Cleanse and Moisturize: The dry sensitive skin should be cleansed with a cold cream and alcohol-free skin fresheners to remove the cream. After cleansing, the skin needs a lubricating emollient or a moisturizer when the face is damp after the wash.
- Avoid coming in contact with highly alkaline soaps and detergents like washing sodas and powders, which contain highly alkaline and drying ingredients.
- Avoid the sun and harsh winds and hot baths and use oil-based creams and make-up products only.
- Do not smoke. Smoking has a harmful effect on the skin for several reasons. Nicotine constricts the blood vessels, including the tiny capillaries that serve the skin. This deprives the skin of the oxygen and nutrients it needs for good health. Smoking also can make the skin dry and leathery.
- If the skin is chapped or cracked, increase your consumption of water and essential fatty acids. Keep any chapped areas well lubricated and protected from the elements.
- Do not use medicated soap. Use creamy and soft beauty soaps for dry skin care.
